A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Peru’s southern Andes at 1 pm local Thursday (1800 GMT), USGS said. It was felt in Ica, Arequipa, and as far as Lima.
USGS placed the epicenter about 24 miles (38 km) northwest of Upahuacho in Ayacucho’s Parinacochas province, at a depth of 66.7 km. Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) put the event higher, around 7.2, which is why some social clips labeled it that way. Wire reports first said there were no immediate damage figures. Later local tallies circulating Thursday included injuries and damaged homes in Ayacucho and Cusco — still being confirmed.
Peru sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire. A 7.9 quake in Ica in 2007 killed nearly 600 people. Social video posted Thursday showed mountainside debris and crowded streets after the shaking.

Clip shared as Peru earthquake footage (@visegrad24). IGP-style 7.2 label; USGS says 6.7.
Not independently verified as this quake. Replies — including a Peruvian journalist — say the clip may show Pereira, Colombia, not Peru. Posted here as video being shared, not as confirmed Peru footage.
