The Ordinary Means of Protection

Spiritual warfare: Step 3

The Ordinary Means

The weapons Christ already gave you, and how the exorcists use them.

Confession

Every exorcist we heard returned to confession first. Fr. Ripperger explains why it is so powerful:

“When they go to confession, what it does is that it breaks the legal bond that the demon has in relationship to the person by the absolution of the priest.”Fr. Chad Ripperger, Shawn Ryan Show #285 at 0:58:33

Fr. Reehil says that when people he meets begin praying and go to confession, “maybe 50% of the time that breaks whatever was with them.” (Shawn Ryan Show #141 at 1:43:57) Msgr. Rossetti goes weekly:

“If you walk away from this with anything, go to confession, go regularly.”Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, A Reason For Hope Podcast at 0:21:33

The Mass and the Eucharist

Msgr. Rossetti describes how hard the demons fight to keep an afflicted woman from Mass, and what that reveals:

“The demons do everything they can to keep a person from going to Mass, which is a witness to how important the Mass and the Eucharist is.”Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, A Reason For Hope Podcast at 0:08:58

His summary of the path back: stop any occult practice, go to confession, and “practice the faith, say those rosaries, go to Mass.” (A Reason For Hope Podcast at 0:08:00)

Daily prayer and self-denial

Prayer is not optional equipment. Fr. Ripperger: “As a Christian, you should be praying. And if you’re praying regularly, you can pray for your own protection.” (Tucker Carlson at 1:38:21) He also teaches the value of fasting offered in the state of grace:

“If you’re in the state of grace and you offer up the fasting for some particular like your protection or for your children’s well-being or what have you, then it’s a meritorious act and God will grant the grace that you’re petitioning.”Fr. Chad Ripperger, Shawn Ryan Show #285 at 3:45:09

Fr. Reehil adds that simple order helps: “order is from God, the demons don’t like order.” (Shawn Ryan Show #141 at 1:43:44)

The Rosary

“We say the rosary every day, which is a phenomenally powerful weapon. Padre Pio used to refer to it as a weapon.”Fr. Chad Ripperger, Shawn Ryan Show #285 at 2:39:51

Msgr. Rossetti keeps his rosary with him at all times and sleeps with it: “You can sleep with the rosary beads, by the way.” (Lila Rose Show E243 at 0:19:41)

Sacramentals

Sacramentals are sacred signs instituted by the Church that prepare us to receive grace (Catechism 1667 to 1673). They are not magic; they work through the prayer of the Church and our faith. Msgr. Rossetti lists the ones exorcists use:

“Holy water, crucifixes, rosaries, Benedict medals, intercession of the saints and angels, all those sorts of things that the Church supplies us with.”Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, Lila Rose Show E243 at 1:59:02

Fr. Ripperger names “the Catholic sacramentals, holy water, exorcised oil” and blessed candles. (Shawn Ryan Show #285 at 2:40:39)

Bless your home

The Church has a rite for the blessing of homes. Ask your parish priest to bless your house, especially when you move in, and many parishes bless homes at Epiphany. Between blessings, families can keep holy water by the door, hang a crucifix in the main rooms, and pray together.

Msgr. Rossetti once gave a struggling woman this simple counsel:

“I want you to sprinkle some holy water in your place and yourself and I want you to use the three Rs. I reject you. I rebuke you. I renounce.”Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, Lila Rose Show E243 at 1:12:37

Remove anything occult from the home, such as Ouija boards, tarot cards or objects used in witchcraft. Msgr. Rossetti calls the occult “a ticket to Satan.” (A Reason For Hope Podcast at 0:07:45)
